Just don’t ask which room. The Atrium Bar, Sofitel Melbourne, always has a space for you, is sophisticated and manages a feat few bars understand – a bar where you can hear your friends speak. While located on level 35 in the atrium of the hotels suites it has no view to call its own instead relying on fabric twirls reaching into the sky and soft intimate lighting to create their ambience.

Dino, Java (aka Coffee) and I stumbled here after our Offspring Bar Crawl looking for somewhere with seating, that wouldn’t hurt our ears, good drinks and a bathroom. We had blundered past at least five other city establishments, none offering the blend we were after for the final stop of the evening, before arriving on the carpeted foyer of the Sofitel. We were welcomed with hushed tones, comfortable seating and nibbles while we awaited our drinks. (Vegetarian warning here – the evening nibbles were unkindly toffee popcorn with BACON – now for some of you this may be a cause for joy but I thought it was plain mean. Hidden bacon in poor lighting).

Did someone mention a view? Well if it’s not in the Atrium where is it? Why the bathroom of course! The view here is uninterrupted over the eastern suburbs and is a bit spectacular. Its great seeing people’s face when they enter the bathroom – not that I hung out in the bathroom and watched. That would be creepy. You just notice that kind of thing. And I would have said me taking photos in the bathroom was creepy – but as I had to join a queue of three women waiting to take photos it seemed ok.

Cool view huh?

This place does great cocktails (esp their Bellini) good tea, snackage and scrumptious looking deserts. If you haven’t been before I would recommend a visit – and don’t forget to powder your nose!

  1. I was lucky enough to dine at No35 @ the Sofitel earlier this year, so I know about the great bathroom views :)

    • I have wanted to dine there for ages (no35 not the bathrooms…). I love the apr├Ęs ski style are they have with the fire – it looks so nice!
