There is something about Maling Rd that requires the word stroll don’t you think? A few weeks ago Sim and I headed here on a lovely Wednesday evening to partake of the Maling Rd Moonlight Shopping event. I had heard about this event several months ago when I met some friends for a birthday brunch here and had popped it into my diary.

As a part of this event the majority of the stores on this quaint street had agreed to stay open until 9pm, many serving champagne and nibbles, and there was a roving band creating a festive atmosphere along the street. There is something so pleasant about shopping in the evening…

We arrived about 7ish (the train station is under 20 mins from the cbd and back onto the shops) to a begin our perusal and of course headed to my beloved antique centre. I was and am still after a silver toast rack – how can it be so hard? After a fairly lengthy browse – this place is packed with gorgeous curios – we departed empty handed but happily having left the cares of the world behind us and with our heads full of silver Bon Bon dishes and sparkling jewels we headed off to peruse our way among the shops.

We explored clothing shops, I was surprised how many great fashion options there were available for a girl in her 20′s and 30′s as I must admit I had simply assumed they were geared towards a slightly older cliental. We found a few cute summer dresses and other bits and pieces either of us would have been happy to have in our wardrobes.

We browsed through home-ware stores that make me long for space so I could have some of the beautiful pieces on show and looked at some of the jewelry shops. By the time we were ready to look for a food option we had sadly left it a little late and most of the cafes and restaurants had closed or had very little left. Despite this it was a lovely night and I am only surprised there weren’t more people there. This is the perfect way to see Maling Rd.

So wishing you had come along? Well fear not they are doing one more late night evening this year on Friday December 2nd until 9pm –

This year they are continuing their tradition of hosting a Kriskindl Festival with live music entertainment, gift making and a bundle of fun targeted towards the entire family – not just kids. There will also be several rides, Christmas showbags (I can’t tell you how much I want one of these – could there be two better words? Christmas. Showbags.) an animal nursery, and a cup and saucer ride. I believe the origins were around providing a chance for kids to grab a pressie for their family but why not grab a pressie for your family…and perhaps yourself?
