Tonight was my final foray into the 2011 Melbourne Comedy Festival this time to see Spontaneous Broadway. You may note of my three trips this is my second on a Tuesday, I won’t say that this is mostly attributable to tight arse Tuesday’s and lower price tickets.

Bean and I met in front of the Arts Centre ( Lamb stood us up!)amongst those savoring warm drinks in the mild evening air. I really love the way Melburnians embrace the art of drinking and dining under the stars.

Bean was wearing her new bag from our aforementioned Portmans shopping spree – so on style I very much wanted it to be mine.

We headed down into the Fairfax Studio after dropping our Musical Suggestion(thankfully not selected) into little buckets outside the door. The show comprised of five singers/actors a narrator a guest appearance by Wilbur Wilde and a very talented pianist. The premise is a little like “Whose Line Is It Anyway?”, with the cast taking random words/phrases and spinning songs and a musical out of it. The skills of the cast varied but all demonstrated their ability to think quickly on the sing. Bean and I are mutually agreed it was was Mr Gorgeous who was our favorite be he Jogger or dreaming of a cream but it was great to see Coleen Mann strutting her stuff too!

The show by it’s very nature is something new and fresh each night and will be playing until the end of the festival with a different guest director each time.

Afterwards we headed up to Fed Sq and Feddish for a (weak, pricey and a little disappointing) peppermint tea. However location wise it was the perfect way to end the evening listening to the roars of laughter rising to meet us from the performance occurring in the tent bellow us.
