Tucked just off Bay St in Port Melbourne, Moulin Noir is a cute little cafe that caters perfectly to the PM set and equally well to the interloper (moi). On Sunday HD and I met for a puppy date (puppy is a stretch I agree but as I use melbourniangirl for me I think we can all agree I run to hyperbole). The plan was to walk our dogs, grab a bite of brunch and then carry on with our day.

Sometimes I love it when plans fall to the wayside. Binky a poor walker at the best of times these days decided it was a day to be carried and Mr C was in a super sniffy mood. So HD and I decided on the sensible thing. Skip walk. Do brunch.

We wandered to Moulin Noir on HD’s recommendation with it’s gorgeous outside seating and yummy looking menu and am very glad we did. A charming waiter (with a dreamy French accent) provided us our menus and we perused. With only the slightest of chills in the air we decided for porridge with poached fruit and a polenta stack that looked yum.

My porridge was perfect – generous quantities of poached pair smothered in well cooked porridge and with a Muscavado sugar and walnut sprinkle….mmmmm. The coffees were good and the staff were attentive without being annoying at any point.

We chatted with each other, the many passing dog owners and with other patrons. It was all very friendly. We chatted so much in fact that we had about a four hour brunch. At no point did the staff bustle us along or imply we had to order more to stay. All in all a lovely Sunday.

On a side note we also popped in for manis at one of the two neighboring nail salons both with 50% off until September. It was $10 very well spent and I may well head back for a mani/pedi at these bargain prices. and perhaps another porridge.
