Persimmon moi…
My most recent foray into the MFWF 2012 was to visit Persimmon at the NGV over the weekend. The gang and I booked online a few weeks ago to partake in the $35 express lunch and while none of us were familiar with the restaurant the location, price and reviews all seemed perfect.   Persimmon is located at the rear of the NGV overlooking a water feature and some lovely gardens. Dee and I arrived first and were promptly seated at surprisingly comfy bench seats in the bustling ... Read More

Melbourne Food and Wine Festival and a Bistro with a Vue…
The Melbourne Food and Wine Festival kicked off for another fabulous March on the 2nd of March. For those foodies out there it signifies glorious weeks of tasting gourmet samples, watching master chefs or foodie flicks, attending express bar sessions or my very favorite express lunch series.   The express lunch as a part of the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival has to be a highlight for me. It's a regional Victorian initiative where some of the states best restaurants fling open their ... Read More

I Chu Chu Miss Chu Sydney…
One day a girl can be happily crunching a Miss Chu warm vermicelli salad on Exhibition St in Melbourne and the next enjoying Miss Chu rice paper rolls in Sydney beneath the opera house.   Isn't life funny sometimes?   I found myself today in Circular Quay in Sydney needing to find a quick bite before my next meeting. While Sydney and I have formed a friendship we have yet to get beyond pleasantries to really know each other so trying to find somewhere that was quick, easy, ... Read More

I Chu Chu Miss Chu you…
Last weekend amid a flurry of cupcake decorating and macaron making Lamb and I scooted to Miss Chu - Queen of Rice Paper Rolls on Exhibition St for a very quick (and yummy) lunch.   Miss Chu's opened last year in Melbourne (has been around in Sydney for awhile I think) and has been'pular ever since. It's got a really kitsch feel to it with a delivery bicycle always parked out front, a long narrow restaurant space, low seating cubes and a window at front that opens for coffee. ... Read More

Hive heard enough Mr…
On the 40 degree day at the start of the year the girls and I retreated into the air conditioned cocoon of Crown Casino and Mr Hive Kitchen and Bar. Mr Hive Kitchen and Bar is tucked under the Metropol Hotel at one end of the Crown Complex and is one of the new comers to the crown dining scene. The bar and restaurant a meld of lush dark honeycombed wood and broken in to three distinct areas.   At the front is a bar with one large communal table to the side and a lounge/informal ... Mistletoe and Hollyhock…
How is it that Hollyhock in Port Melbourne isn't the next big thing? Located on Station Pier with water views and lots of different seating areas I wish this place was walking distance from home. A large group of us came here for a long and lazy mid week lunch (you know the sort that December brings) and with the great weather took a seat in the outdoor section along the boardwalk. I was really impressed given the size of our booking that they were good enough to have set up a table both ... Read More
