Port Fairy Folk Festival 2012…
Can you think of a nicer way to spend a labour day weekend than listening to lovely music at the Port Fairy Folk Festival?   I was lucky enough to return for a third year of folkie goodness, carrying my low chair over my shoulder and drinking soy lattes to a lovely range of music.   The Port Fairy Folk Festival spans four days beginning Friday evening and ending lunch time on Monday. This year we drove down Friday after work so while we had a chance to see some of country ... Read More

Flying with Falkor at the Open Air Cinema in St Kilda…
Last night I went to the St Kilda Open Air Cinema on top of the St Kilda Baths to give me a hatrick for outdoor movies in the last month.   We managed to get a discount coupon (there seem to be a lot around for this cinema) the day before allowing us to get two tickets (inc deck chair) for $22 - bargain!   Apple and I decided to drive down but I hadn't really given much thought to parking in St Kilda  - was it going to cost me more than the movie? I googled with little success ... Read More

Beneath the moonlight…
What is it about summer and watching films in unusual locations? I have just returned home after an evening in the Botanical Gardens at the Melbourne Moonlight Cinema.  It was almost the perfect night for  the Moonlight Cinema with sunshine and a gentle breeze although it got a little cooler as the evening wore on (Dino impressed us all by bringing what seemed like dozens of layers from the depths of her Mary Poppins like bag) . We arrived at Gate E, right at the far end of the botanical ... Read More

Silence is golden…
And you were worried that one of my new resolutions might have been to give up my cheesy post headings? When I first read about the new silent Southgate CinemaI was intrigued – tucked upstairs on the east wing of shops this free (Free Free Free) movie cinema is almost a blend between sitting indoors and outdoors beneath a lovely atrium. I jumped online (why, what a surprise) and booked tickets to see Australian classic Kenny during the break between Christmas and New Years. We arrived as recommended ... Read More

Melbourne Music Musings…
We love to call Melbourne the city of books, the fashion capital and the cultural hub and sports destination but we also absolutely rock the music scene too! A few years ago I began attending The Port Fairy Folk Festival (the line for coffee is longer than the one for beer and soy milk always seems to run out) and relished that most often my favorite bands, the ones I grabbed CD's for (or iTuned) were nearly always local Melbourne bands. I am sure I will come to talk about venues at some point in ... Read More

Twitter away to me…
MSO, a secret symphony, is there anything more intriguing than a secret? When Bean let me know about a secret event being advertised only across Twitter I was intrigued and quickly began to follow @asecretsymphony part of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra (MSO) music program. It was so exciting, clues dropped here and there. Where would it be? When? Why...the twitterverse was abuzz.Details slowly began to be shared until we thought we knew it all (lol, how often do we think that hmmm?)The Paris Cat8 ... Read More
