Is that the Estelle Bar and Kitchen…
The Estelle Bar and Kitchen in Northcote was a bit of a surprise. When HD suggested it as a pre comedy festival event the rest of us were all happy to go along with the suggestion and take it from there.   Arriving at the Estelle ( Estelle Bar and Kitchen) we were greated by a lovely interior with rich wood and cool tiles and it's small - not super small just intimate small. We sat down and were offered the wine list which we happily accepted. The wine varieties were good although ... Read More

Persimmon moi…
My most recent foray into the MFWF 2012 was to visit Persimmon at the NGV over the weekend. The gang and I booked online a few weeks ago to partake in the $35 express lunch and while none of us were familiar with the restaurant the location, price and reviews all seemed perfect.   Persimmon is located at the rear of the NGV overlooking a water feature and some lovely gardens. Dee and I arrived first and were promptly seated at surprisingly comfy bench seats in the bustling ... Read More

Melbourne Food and Wine Festival and a Bistro with a Vue…
The Melbourne Food and Wine Festival kicked off for another fabulous March on the 2nd of March. For those foodies out there it signifies glorious weeks of tasting gourmet samples, watching master chefs or foodie flicks, attending express bar sessions or my very favorite express lunch series.   The express lunch as a part of the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival has to be a highlight for me. It's a regional Victorian initiative where some of the states best restaurants fling open their ... Read More

A thousand blessings…
Who wouldn’t wish for a thousand blessings to come into their life? When looking for somewhere brunch friendly for a long overdue Saturday catch up sim and I decided to head to A Thousand Blessings Café in Richmond nestled at the end of the Gleadel St Market (which was closed as the first Sat in Jan).   The café on market days is normal packed and bustling and when I arrived at 9am I figured it was going to be much quieter. By 10am the place was packed again. A sweet, warm and friendly ... Read More

A Sweet Source…
This is one of those places where you almost want to pinch yourself as you walk in. It's exactly how a cafe selling sweet cakes should look. Exactly. Its even situated perfectly at the foot of the quirky charming Rathdowne Village, a favorite haunt of mine. On Sunday with yet another beautifully sunny morning spreading out in front of me I decided it was the perfect day to have an impromptu picnic in the park. I will be honest here that I generally spend an hour or two most weekends at the park ... Read More

Follow the north (Fitzroy) star…
*don't forget to enter the La Clinica giveaway here*You may recall a few weeks ago that on Census night I introduced you to my "local" (insert disclaimer - this pub, the North Fitzroy Star, is not particularly local but so much do I wish it was that's what Dino, Bean and I have dubbed it) but was more chatty about the census than the wonders of this little pub. Any pub that comes complete with hundreds of the orange backs (the orange and cream penguin paperbacks) and boardgames is automatically a ... Read More
