Cupcake Bakery

I remember when I first realized cupcakes were about to take over Melbourne. One afternoon my sister appeared on my doorway clutching bags of city shopping and a small box. That small box contained two cupcakes from the newly opened Cupcake Bakery in Melbourne Central.

Shopping was forgotten and we set the box down on the counter to admire the two beautiful cupcakes inside. She had choses a carrot cupcake (brilliant sister) and some other flavour – perhaps vanilla Choc? We put the kettle to boil, got out the pretty china and cut each cupcake in half to form a dual flavour cupcake.

The carrot cupcake was delicious, moist with lots of not to sweet icing. Thus my obsession (created by the Magnolia Bakery in NY) was revived. The cupcake bakery has since opened a number of stores across Melbourne. The interiors are always really well planned out and have a cupcakey charm to them.

They generally have sixteen flavors on offer in a blend of basic flavors (I.e. Vanilla Vanilla, Vanilla Strawberry, Choc Choc, Red Velvet) to gourmet flavors (Rocky Road, Lemon Meringue). There are often mixed reviews on the Cupcake Bakery but I think it’s all in the choice. For me it’s really the carrot one that stands out as the best but I know many who rave just as much about the Red Velvet or the Tiramasu flavors.

The great thing is they are the perfect treat for Birthdays. If you want to grab one and add a candle (they sell those too) or a whole box to share you always get a smile if you arrive cupcake in hand. Cupcakes and smiles do seem to belong together don’t they?
