On Sunday morning, in what is fast becoming a much loved tradition, I had a call from Sim proposing a spontaneous adventure, this time to the Federation Square Carpark and it’s Melbourne Design Market.

We arrived at the giant Carpark at about 2pm and the place was awash with People and stalls set up in a neat inner and outer circle of original and in some instances mega bargain designs. One of the nicest things was that it felt very Melbourne with a lot of really unique Melbourne centric products on offer from melways wrapped soap to cushions featuring the Nylex clock.

Sim and I both happily browsed The Melbourne Design Market enjoying some of the beautiful products on display and marveling at how naturally creative some people are to pull together these types of products. We sighed over Elk jewelry (will feature this Melbourne designer at some point) and Fell in love with one of the stockiest Cycle Style.

I have been cyber stalking Cycle Style, a Melbourne-based store selling stylish clothing and accessories for the urban cyclist for some time now…well ever since I got my bike. They have cute bike stuff! One of the hints I have found as a purely leisure cyclist is that so much of the available accessories….are well….ugly. This cute little shop somehow gets the blend right between stylish and functional. They also cater for the girly girl (like me) who wants pretty bike gear.

So when I found the chance to browse their store in person I was thrilled. I happily purchased a Beauty Queen Pageant Sash ($25) in black with white polka dots that I already love – can I just wear this anyway? And it’s a relief to get rid of my orange ugly thing – yay!

We admired the skirt garters (what a great idea – easier to ride in a skirt) and the really cute cycling capes – both of these may well make their way into my wardrobe over time. They also had gorgeous Helmets, bike bags and scarfs. Really this place is a cyclists dream.

The market appears twice a year in December and July and retires new designers and established Melbourne Designers – it’s interesting how many products we recognized from shops in Brunswick and following craft blogs. It was a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon and will definitely have the July market on my to do list next year.
