My next stopover was KLIA (Kuala Lumpur International Airport) one of those places I feel I know too well. In fact I love both the airport and the city a great deal.
Our stopover was closer to an hour than the advertised thirty minutes but this was perfect as it gave me a chance to have a wander in a forest.
All without leaving the terminal!
KLIA is known as an airport in the forest. In fact it was designed with the concept of “an airport in the forest” and “forest in the airport” as the underlying theme. One of the nicest pieces of this is in the middle of the international terminal there is a Jungle Boardwalk that essentially takes you outside and into a warm, fresh rainforest complete with waterfall and birds chirping (I fear the birds may well be a cd….).
It’s a one way path with a small side loop and after being air bound with artificial air piped in all around you stepping into this little oasis is unbelievably refreshing (but do be prepared for the heat). It can take as little as a minute to traverse or you are free to dawdle. The only catch is there is no seating in the forest section but after sitting for so long while flying I am more than happy not to fuss about that.
