I really like how random Melbourne can be and Heffernan Lane, sandwiched (or dumplinged or pita’ed – you will get this humor soon) between Lt Bourke and Lonsdale is a perfect example.
As a part of the Laneways Commisions in 2001-2 a Word and Ways installation was set up by Evangelos Sakaris. The random assortment of street signs is tucked between China Town and Little Greece and features quotes from Lao Tzy a Chinese philosopher and Herclitus a Greek philosopher. If my earlier joke still doesn’t make sense please ignore it.
Cool right? It’s kind of fun to watch tourists and those unfamiliar with the street pause and try and take it all in.
