On the 40 degree day at the start of the year the girls and I retreated into the air conditioned cocoon of Crown Casino and Mr Hive Kitchen and Bar.
Mr Hive Kitchen and Bar is tucked under the Metropol Hotel at one end of the Crown Complex and is one of the new comers to the crown dining scene. The bar and restaurant a meld of lush dark honeycombed wood and broken in to three distinct areas.
At the front is a bar with one large communal table to the side and a lounge/informal dining area and then at the back a more formal looking restaurant.
We arrived just after twelve seeking iced drinks (of the alcoholic variety) and some sort of lunch type snackage. We grabbed a little round table and pulled enough chairs to it and Lamb managed to drag one of the heaviest chairs I have ever seen over. We ordered our drinks and took in the lovely ambience of the bar.
Our drinks arrived in frosty glasses packed with ice (oh the bliss!) and we sipped our champagne, pear ciders and champagne. We all shared our post New Years news and gossip, given three of us had spent it together there wasn’t much and then our bread, oysters, chickpea chips (recommend) and thick cut chips arrived. Yum!
I look forward to heading back one night for Friday night drinks at the bar and perhaps trying out the restaurant as well…
