I wanna get CLOSE to you…

Mister Close is one of those places I watched with much dubiousness as it prepared to open over a month ago. It had all the makings of somewhere cool but is located in the middle of the MidTown Plaza (Target centre) in the CBD (need I say more?). Well I was foolish to wonder, this little creation has added something new and fresh to the lunch spot options in the middle of Melbourne and while I love walking down alleyways and up stairs it’s nice to find somewhere so accessible.

CJ and I headed down for a lunch bite and were told that for the first time they had a waiting list and would we mind waiting about ten minutes. We were fine and spent the time deciding from the giant chilled cabinet at the front what we were going to be after. We were pointed to our table at the very back which again highlighted the ramdomness of being in a trendy cafe edged on one side with a shopping mall and the other with a commercial high rise foyer.

The menu had a good selection and we were both impressed that it had the days date on it – very fresh. We ordered our food and spent some time taking in all the random but cool (lots of nat geos) decor.

I raised my eyes at some of the prices for a quick sandwich lunch – will I never learn? Our meals arrived and they were generously portioned and my haloumi, capsicum and dukah sandwich was AMAZINGLY delicious. The side potato salad was also delicious and could almost have been a lunch in it’s own right. CJs soup was giant but sadly only came with one piece of bread. Reviews though were all positive for the tastiness of the soup.

I can’t imagine this place not having many a more lunch day queue and I think they totally deserve it. Was also glad to note they are open for weekend breakfast which is a great opportunity I think as the city is still sadly lacking in good brunch spots for the weekend.
