On Saturday evening, post concert (Beethoven’s Ninth) at the town hall we headed to The Westin’s Martini Bar for cocktails to celebrate a certain legumes birthday. I may have mentioned this before; I have a thing for hotel bars. I love that they feel so glamourous and International and even more because they are the kind of place you can enjoy a cocktail and still hear your companions speak. Although I grant this is not always a benefit.

The bar itself is tucked above City Square, Behind Chanel (sigh) and to the side of the Westin. It can be reached from Collins street or through the hotels foyer. The bar isn’t enormous but has more then enough space and forms several intimate areas. There was also a fire that had we been a slightly smaller group we may have been able to get closer to. However, as we were a group of around eleven I was thrilled we managed to find a space more than able to house all of us and with flexibility to add more.

We were all impressed with the pages and pages of drinks on offer (including a create your own Martini section – but not in a tacky way) and even cocktails for the drivers amongst us! I debated between a cocktail and wine until I realized they had my favorite white at the moment on the list (Catalina Sounds) so ordered wine.

Unfortunately I got cocktail envy as everyone’s drinks began to arrive in tall glasses filled with brightly colored and sparkling beverages. I then annoyed the waiter. Poor man had brought out an empty wine glass so he could poor in front of me – and I changed my mind and requested a cocktail – like theirs, no passionfruit through but definitely wanted a maraschino cherry. Not fussy at all.

The bar tenders seemed happy enough to whip up another drink (in fact many more for the group as the night progressed) and mine was delicious. One of the guys ordered a decadent looking chocolate martini but laden with bourbon only the chocolate stick was consumed. Still it is very pretty.

All up I liked this bar and hope to return one day to pull up one of the chairs by the fire for a nice drink, a chat and a bit of warmth.
