Last night (Sunday) we headed out to Jells Park, City of Monash, to join in the festivities at their annual Christmas Carols event. While we spent most of the day checking the weather in the hope that the looming clouds (thanks Melbourne) weren’t going to bring rain down upon us we were relieved to see the event was set to go ahead rain free.

We arrived about 7:30 and after a mini trek from our car to the venue we were pleased by the well positioned stage, plenty of space and a nice selection of stores selling all sorts of drinks and snacks.

We headed towards the middle of the crowd and settled down with Bianca happily snuffling about (She loves nothing more than singing along to carols) and it was great that while the slope of the hill was gentle we had a clear view of the stage.

Christmas Carols

Picnic rugs abounded with a few people in low rise chairs and it was nice to see lots of other dogs joining their respective families for the festivities. The carols were opened with a few speeches and then the music began. B went on the hunt for dinner and managed to rustle up both a regular sausage and a vegetarian (!) sausage for us for dinner at a surprisingly reasonable price. Dee and I both had our fake candles that we happily waived in the air and I was thrilled to be given a yellow star twinkle light headband to complement D’s flashing Santa hat.

The singers were all great and they guest stared Michael Paynter who bought something a little cool to the stage as well as a choir and several other lovely artists. One thing we did all find a little funny was how many of the singers were evidently singing from a lyric sheet – who doesn’t know carols off by heart? Still it was lovely and festive and it was nice to see Santa appear as well. Due to the impending thunderstorms they wrapped up a little bit early with an AMAZING fireworks show that ran for at least 10 magical minutes. Bianca in all her puppy wisdom was in no way phased by the fireworks but we did notice all around us dogs being given super tight hugs by owners as the loud bangs went off. So cute!!

(Thought I would also share a pic of my home made gingerbread men).

Christmas Carols

All in all a perfect night, It really made it feel like Christmas and it seems odd that I have to head back to work today rather than spend the day with my family and Bianca enjoying the Christmas spirit.

If you haven’t had a chance to attend any carols yet don’t forget these events are still coming up;

Monday 19th – Tuesday 20th – Carols in the Cathedral features the Royal Melbourne Philharmonic Choir and Australian Children’s Choir

Friday 23rd December – Carols by Candlelight Rehearsal Sidney Myer Music Bowl FREE

Saturday 24th December – Carols by Candlelight the big show!
