The city of Melbourne Building is one of the buildings that houses the fantasy inner city apartment of my imagination. With its curved wall between Lt Collins and Elizabeth St, Round Windows, Balconies and Turrets I have happily fantasised about a sweet little Melbournian Girl sized apartment on the very top floor where I will sip champagne, entertain friends and lead the most fabulously eccentric lifestyle…

The building, dated 1888 (cool year huh?), was built for the short lived Melbourne Building Society in the Queen Anne Style. These days it houses a number of shops, tailors and random little enterprises tucked beneath its turrets and weather veins.

I found a great blog post about The City of Melbourne Building here with a lovely old photo dating to 1890. The comments are also interesting for those of you familiar with the Melbourne University Carpark.
