I saw this on the tram the other day for Melbourne Open House Day 2011 -

The last two years I have gathered a group of friends together created a map and day plan (organized or loser – totally your call) and we have set off to explore our gorgeous city.

We have found converted basements, ballrooms, attics, three story terraces, roof gardens, hidden churches, Melbournes first public bathroom, deco meeting rooms and lots of other random things.

Each time we meet early with coffee in hand and walking shoes ready for a big day out – and I mean big – if you do this day MG style it’s a full day of wandering and visiting (but in a fun way).

We have also made the time for random cocktails/champagne at midday any one? and lunch somewhere we have never been before (Charles Dickens Tavern one year and the Oriental Tea House the next).

There is always something about this day that makes me feel I have been on a holiday or had a long weekend. This year, like last, it’s over two days so I reccomend you round up some chums and head out to play in the city! You never know what you may find…

I couldn’t recommend it more!

Here’s a quick link to a blog I posted about the Mission to Seafarers which we visited last year.
