It’s out! The March issue of Time Out Melbourne has hit the shelves and tucked away on page 26 is the article about filming Offspring in Melbourne, more especially Fitzroy and uses my blog and me as a source! Now I know a true blogger might take this naturally in stride, but not me – I want to jump up and down, toast with champagne (in saucers not flutes) and buy lots and lots of copies.
When I headed to Mag Nation on Elizabeth at lunchtime today I scoured the shop looking for this months Time Out (fell off track for just a moment as I grabbed this months Harpers Bazaar with free lipgloss) and then had to go ask one of the staff members for it. In typical MG style it was right in front of me at the main desk and I grabbed three copies (one for you Rose!).
I paid up and then had a moment of fear that despite the Melbourne TV Image splashed across the cover that maybe they had scrapped the offspring article or any reference to Melbournian Girl. I paused in moment of suspense, blocking the queue and customers, as I riffled through the magazine and let out a happy squeak and perhaps a little skip as there it was! Phew. I think the attendant may have though I was a fruit loop. But yay!
The magazine also covers some other great TV shows set in Melbourne including The Secret Life of Us, Homicide, Underbelly, Round the Twist, Kath and Kim and of course Neighbors. Interestingly Channel 7′s Winners and Losers received no mention at all. I feel really bad for this show and wish they had made more of being Melbourne based beyond the odd sweep of the docklands. I watched the first episode missed that it was set in Melb, assumed Sydney and switched channels. It was only near the end of the season I noticed and tuned back in. I really think Melbourne when allowed to be a cast member can shine and bring a real edge to the screen and to set something here and not feature it seems a waste.
In that vain I though for my next two posts I would feature my two latest Melbourne on the screen crushes…can you guess what they might be?
