There is something about having pretty footwear. It brightens up a day, takes you where you need to go and is, well, pretty. I love the look of heels but both my natural clumsiness and the fact that I spend a lot of time walking about make flats a favored option.

One of the biggest catches with most flats is that they have a flimsy base. They are designed for walking about on carpet, sitting, driving and short walks or just don’t last that long. So, if a girl (MelbournianGirl in this instance) wants to spend hours exploring her beloved city, walking the parks and generally just pottering about – what is she to do? Wear clunky nanna shoes? Wear sneakers over her tights? Ok, am getting out of third person now – too weird.

The answer is find well made, totally cute flats. Easier said than done right? Last week i thought that was the case until someone encouraged me to check out the Mountfords sale! The store I visited was located on Bourke St and I managed to get two pairs of geox ballet flats at half price. Happy Dance. One even combined bling and bows – I couldn’t be happier! While these aren’t the cheapest of shoes (bye bye JuneJuly sparkle money*) they are incredibly comfortable, breathable and designed for walking. They are also built to last – I still wear a pink pair I got five years ago. Perfect!

And I have this too cute photo of binks at St Kilda beach from last weekend so thought I would share it…

*Sparkle Money – every month I put a little bit of money aside for frivolousness. I call it sparkle money because for me most of my frivolous purchases sparkle!
