I love Italian, and the freshness of Scicilian food is always a pleasure. So for lunch last week a few of us headed down to Solarino in Howey Pl. Its the sort of place I walk past daily and never think to look in – the more fool I. We were seated quickly in a vastly filling restaurant and presented with a full menu and a wine list. Great selection of wines but we all went with sparkling waters – to better balance our yummy carbiness later!

Now, two of our three (myself included) had had amazing italian dishes in the past week and both really just wanted that dish repeated – poor restaurant manners I know. With nothing similar we asked if the chef might be able to whisk up two specials just for us – and he obliged! This to me is amazing service. Now our requests were similar (spaghetti with garlic, chilli, lemon, cream and broccoli) however in a busy lunch time to add an extra two variants was impressive. The food arrived piping hot and all three dishes were perfect and fresh. The restaurant also does sandwiches, cakes and coffees so may well be back soon to grab a coffee or sandwich to take back to work.

I didn’t grab any photos of our food but took a few quick snaps on the way out (am sure I will get better about taking photos soon).

  1. I love this cafe too! Try their newly built underground laneway sister-cafe and restaurant in Equitable Place, off Little Collins Street. Very similar menu with a great cocktail list and comedy nights.

    • Ohhh I will have to take a look – it’s not Sotto is it? Their food is amazing but haven’t tried cocktails there yet.
