Offspring Filming Locations

Yup you have me….I occasionally get addicted to tv shows – especially when they are costume dramas or filmed in the city in which I live. Welcome the Chanel 10 series Offspring staring Asher Keddie (and Eddie Perfect). I love this show for many reasons including a heroine who thinks the thoughts I think (sometimes), an amazing vintage wardrobe a crazy family without being violent and lots of random owls.

I love this series even more for her improbably large apartment and mostly for being shot around Melbourne. Specifically mostly around Fitzroy a favorite haunt of mine. It’s so exciting (for me anyway!) that I recognized so many of the offspring filming locations.

The weekend I began this blog I was sick and I’d watched the entirety of Season 1 in the space of two days. It was this show that had me online searching offspring filming locations (with little success) and finding lots of Melbourne blogs along the way. So I thought perhaps I could help.

So for the next five days I will take you along with me and my friends on our Saturday night Offspring filming locations venue crawl.

We visited a few of the filming locations and managed to combine it happily with a few drinks along the way…

The evening began on Gertrude St, down Brunswick St and along Webb St.

The below is us at the ceramic chair seen in Season 1 (above photo).

The chair designed by Giuseppe Roneri is known as the Victoria St. bench, it’s located outside RedTounge on the corner of Brunswick and Victoria. There are several of theses installations along Brunswick St.

Offspring Filming Locations:

OP 1 – Intro and ceramic chair
OP2 – Radio, Gertrude St
OP3 – Madame Sou Sou, Brunswick St
OP4 – St Judes Cellar, Brunswick St
OP5 - Black Cat, Brunswick St
OP6 – The Union Club Hotel, Gore St & Webb St
OP7 - Sonido, Gertrude St

*** I will be doing a Season Two run so dont forget to subscribe to see all the exciting S2 visits!!!

  1. OMG! It’s like you read my mind! Tonights episode had me in stitches and I just stalked down the location of where she gets coffee (it’s in Gertrude St Fitzroy). I am so going there when Im down in Melb next month over the long weekend!!!

    • Me too – this season looks like it’s going to be a lot funnier and just as great as season one!!

  2. Bar Nancy on High st (Queen’s Parade end) in Westgarth also featured in season 1, though I forget the context. Thanks for all the tips! Now tell us where the Proudman family house is, where Billie and Mick’s is, where the park they have picnic with Andrew is (season 2) which hospital Nina works at, what street she walks along in the morning after leaving Patrick’s for the first time, basically just more more more! Might take my boyfriend on your tour : )

    • Lol – I know I will def be a season 2 OffSpring run (girls take this as your warning!) – there are quite a few places I would like to try and visit and will see what else I am able to show and share. I love meeting other offspring fans and am sure your BF would love the tour as all the places are kinda cool even without the ties to the show :-)

    • Nina works at Freemasons on the corner of Clarendon and Albert in East Melbourne, Patrick’s apartment is one of a few the corner of George St & Little Victoria St Fitzroy. The park where Andrew, Billie and Mick meet, is I think the far end of Carlton Gardens, Carlton St. And Nina lives in an apartment on Albert St, East Melbourne or Eades St if you’re picky!! :) haven’t seen where they film the proudman house yet… I work in the area and constantly seeing star vans everywhere…

      • Thank you – what a great list! I love when people k ow this stuff. I hope i might bump into them filming one day but as I am usually only up that way on weekends not sure I have much of a chance.

Hmmmm – will it be weird if I take photos…surely someone lives there…stalker girl here. Ah well – need to get planning soon…

      • I think Nina actually works at the Mercy Private (although called St. Francis in the show)
It is just behind the epworth freemasons but has the curved balconies that you see in the show and overlooks the Fitzroy gardens with st patricks cathedral in the background. I dont think it could be at the freemasons as they dont have curved balconies and from the front you wouldn’t be able to see the cathedral as you can in the show as it would be slightly hidden behind the building.
I’m a nurse so was looking out for this last time i was there..

        • Just had a look at episode 1 season 2 where it shows the front of the hospital and compared it to google maps street view of the Mercy Private. Now i am 100% certain thats the place, very clever how they have photo shopped all the signs and lettering off the front of the building for the show.

  3. You’ll find that Nina’s apartment building is actually just off Sydney Road in Brunswick.

    • That makes sense – it doesn’t look that fitzroyish…do you know which St?

      • nina and patricks new apartment is on emma st in collingwood :) nina’s old apartment is on dods st, brunswick :)

  4. no i think the eades street east melbourne is right. it would make more sense because its just near the hospital she works at and also you notice that when she is in her apartment you can see the buildings of the CBD out her window like the cathedral so I think it must be here :)

    • unless the outside of the building is in brunswick and they have filmed the interior in a different location? that could be possible too

      • Thanks,

Lol – think I will have to take Binky for many a walk to see if I can work out where.

    • Rob is right. The apartment is on Merri St, near the corner of Sydney Rd and Glenlyon Rd in Brunswick. There is a church there that you can see from the interior shots. I’ve seen them filming there. And they do a lot of the park shots in Edinburgh Gardens in North Fitzroy. When Darcy takes Ray to the park it’s quite often there. And when Billie, Mick and Andrew meet for a picnic I’m pretty sure it’s in these gardens as well. When Billie was having a go at Nina for being a stalker (with Patrick re: the dinner that she got talked into by Patrick’s sister), this was at Tin Pot cafe, cnr of St George’s Rd and Scotchmer St, North Fitzroy (oppsite Peidimontes supermarket).

      • Yay – I just google mapped it and that’s perfect. Def on the list for Offspring Plan, Round Two!

  5. Cool post Melbourne girl. I found you via The Wall as the picked up a Nina Proudman post I had written last night. I was wanting to do something like this and blog about it as well but as I am only new to Melbourne (okay 2 years but still consider myself a tourist from NSW) I had no idea where most of these places were. Thanks to you and your readers for sharing the spots. Maybe I might actually get to visit some of them.

    • Thanks! I hope you do get a chance to visit them – some of the places were really nice – and there is something about being somewhere you have watched on tv!

  6. Does anyone know where the house is that Billie and Mick ALMOST got married in – the ex church on a corner, whose owner came back unexpectedly early from overseas and kicked the whole wedding party out of. It looks like a building in Brunswick, but I may be wrong. . . .

    • Not sure – but it was gorgeous!

      • I think it’s in North Carlton somewhere. I’m keeping my eye out as I live in the area.

  7. Thanks so much for this post! Some friends and I are headed down to Melbourne and we absolutely LOVE Offspring and now, we will be able to hit up the fiming locations.
    Cheers :)

    • Hope you have an amazing time! It’s a really great area to hang out around and there are so many fun offspring and non offspring places to visit!

I can’t wait to get to do the second offspring expedition!

  8. HI MelbournianGirl…

My cousin had told me about ur website & had to check it out too!! Love the website by the way :D
I have an obsession with Offspring too!!! For many reasons…
Where actually planning our own Offspring adventure too. I have found a couple of places but on here has everything which is great, will be checking out the places u had mentioned about.

Have found the corner store & milk bar from the last show, where billie mick & his brother had meet up at. 100 scotchmer st fitzroy north

Can’t wait to read what else u find, all the best in ur travels

  9. Hello,

I googled Offspring locations in Melbourne and saw your blog and subscribed, then I read all of the article. I’m not going to read the recent one because we don’t have series 3 here in New Zealand until the end of the year. Series 2 finished a couple of week’s ago. I just ordered series 1 on DVD and I’ve got 3 episodes left.

You should think about hosting an unofficial tour of Offspring location’s. I’d definitely pay for you to show me the location’s.
I think I’m coming to Melbourne by the New Year and I’m really looking forward as I’ve never been out of the city except for a trip to Vermont and to/from the airport.

  10. I was searching Brunswick real estate listings and found that the apartment used as Nina’s is for sale: http://www.domain.com.au/Property/For-Sale/Apartment-Unit-Flat/VIC/Brunswick/?adid=2009685699

    • Omg omg!!!!!! That’s so awesome AG,
Can’t believe u found Ninas place. Am a massive fan of Offspring so I’ll checking out her place next week. It’s sooooo beautiful.

I’m sure everyone will appreciate u posting this on her coz I sure do :D

  11. I wish I’d found all these comments before my friend and I, both from Tassie spent the day roaming aimlessly around Fitzroy. We’ll have to come back over again now :) thanks so much! We really wanted to know where Nina’s new place is and now we know!! Thanks again!

  12. We are holidaying from QLD, huge Offspring fans, we had a couple of days in Melbourne and went on a search to find offspring filming locations. We had a drink in the Union Club Hotel, took a couple of photos,. On a visit to the ladies, I noticed some grafetti on the back of the door. ” Nanna Nina Noonan wasn’t anywhere ” took a photo of that too. Is the building diagonal to the pub, the location For Proudman Real Estate??? Pub looks way bigger in the show, and we walked along fitzroy, Gertrude streets and have recognised a few footpaths.

  13. Hello all offspring lovers!!
90% sure that 278 Gore st, fitzroy is where Billie and Mick Almost got married in the final of season 2!!

  14. 278 Gore Street is where Billie and Mick almost got married. The Proudman family home is in Delbridge Street North Fitzroy, the house Billie and Mick almost moved into is on the corner of Rowe Street and Alfred Crescent North Fitzroy and the medical clinic Billie visited is on the corner of Rathdowne and Richardson Streets North Carlton. Mick’s brother’s bottle shop is Blackhearts and Sparrrows 113 Scotchmer Street, North Fitzroy. That list should provide a good walking tour guide.

  15. I absolutely love Offspring, and after stumbling across and reading your lovely blog, I think a trip to Melbourne is in order!! ;)

  16. My daughter and I did our own Offspring tour last weekend thanks to you and your fans listing all the locations! Here’s a list of everywhere we went to:

. Patrick’s first house- little Victoria st, off George st, Fitzroy (3 doors down , big blue double door)

. Patrick and ninas apartment- 7 Emma st. Collingwood.

. Proudman (geraldine’s) home- 79 delbridge st. North fitz

. Hospital- st vincents private hospital. (on maps as mercy private). Between grey and gipps st, behind epworth freemasons hosp.

. The park the hospital people go to in their lunch hours is next to the hospital. They also use the park near geraldine’s house.

. Chapel billie and mick almost got married in- 278 gore st. Fitz

. Dr noonans clinic- 544 Brunswick st fitz

. Pub- union club hotel. Cnr Webb and gore sts.

. Proudman Real estate: same address as the pub, across the roundabout. Usually a dress shop.

. The house billie rented when she found out about Nina and mick – cnr rowe st and Alfred crescent. North fitz

. Black cat restaurant- Brunswick st.

. More cafes used on Gertrude st fitz

. The Mosaic chair Nina and Chris sat on is meant to be at the cnr Brunswick and Victoria st fitz. There is one there but it doesn’t match the one in the show, the picture/pattern isn’t right. So the one in the show has either been replaced or moved somewhere else

. Adam’s cafe is the palamino in northcote but we didn’t go there.

Although some of the locations are near each other its a nightmare to get from one to the other cos of all the one way streets. Take a zoomed in street map with u so it shows the one way streets!

    • I love youuuuuu… in a few hours I will go on the tour you have just written!

  17. Sorry about this but quite a lot of the scenes are filmed in a friends house in Collingwood. Billie and Mick’s bedroom. Clare Bowdich character’s house. Can’t tell more . . .

  18. Fantastc goods from you, man. I have understannd your stuff previous to and you

  20. Do we know Nina’s address?

  21. It’s really very complex in this full of activity life to listen news on TV, thus I just use the web for that reason, and get the most up-to-date news.
