Call the switchboard…
The Switchboard Café tucked into two small nook in the wall spaces at the foot of the Manchester Union building is absolutely enchanting in its very own quirky way. I have long had an obsession with the stunning building for its old world charm and history and the café serves it all up right on a plate…or in a cup. Looking for somewhere to head for a quick and easy lunch I wondered past the switchboard cafe and was tempted by the people eating avocado on toast outside in the walkthrough ... Read More

A plantation growing in Melbourne…
Have you tried cold drip coffee? I had never tried this delicious way of preparing coffee until a few weeks when I popped into the newly opened Plantation just on the edge of the Dining Hall in Melbourne Central. From the owners of St Ali and Sensory Lab those guys know coffee. We know that. But wow. Cold drip coffee is strong, rich has no hint of burnt (duh) and has this clean coffee taste I loved. I think a little coffee is order after all that sugar don't you? Brother Baba Budan is one of those places that is perfectly Melbourne CBD. It has great coffee, is somewhere you may have walked past dozens of times with out noticing it, has chairs hanging from the ceiling (very Melbourne...) and is so unlike an inner city coffee shop anywhere else. This place bustles from morning to afternoon everyday with friends and strangers crowded around the low communal table filling the front window or ... Read More

Caffeine palace…
The Federal Coffee Palace in any other city would belong to tourists. We evidently don't share as it's generally locals stepping away from the hustle and bustle of Elizabeth St who end up grabbing coffee or a quick bite here.Tucked on the side of the GPO the cafe itself is small and unassuming, what makes it rock is the outdoor seating in the GPO verandah. It's a beautiful place to sit and sip a coffee or catch up with friends under the softly glowing arches with sunlight (if you are lucky) streaming ... Read More

Vue de St Kilda Rd…
Vue de Monde is one of the Melbourne restaurants. You know the sort - fine dining geared at celebrations, proposals and a weeks pay. While for many, venues such as these remain elusive, Vue de Monde graciously branched out into bistro and then even more accessibly into a chain of cafes. One Sunday on my way to meet friends I realized I needed caffeine. The good sort. Driving out of the city and into the suburbs I wasn't sure where I might be able to grab a cup to go and then, magically (theses ... Read More
