Cupcakes, Cupcakes, Cupcakes – Day Two…
I remember when I first realized cupcakes were about to take over Melbourne. One afternoon my sister appeared on my doorway clutching bags of city shopping and a small box. That small box contained two cupcakes from the newly opened Cupcake Bakery in Melbourne Central. Shopping was forgotten and we set the box down on the counter to admire the two beautiful cupcakes inside. She had choses a carrot cupcake (brilliant sister) and some other flavour - perhaps vanilla Choc? We put the kettle to boil, ... Read More

I’m rarely shaken…
On Saturday evening, post concert (Beethoven's Ninth) at the town hall we headed to The Westin's Martini Bar for cocktails to celebrate a certain legumes birthday. I may have mentioned this before; I have a thing for hotel bars. I love that they feel so glamourous and International and even more because they are the kind of place you can enjoy a cocktail and still hear your companions speak. Breakfast at Tiffany’s…
Yesterday morning droves of girls clad in their very best Holly Golightly headed to Collins St for Breakfast at Tiffany's. The doors to the newly redeveloped Tiffany & Co on Melbourne's Collins Street opened to an expectant public, offering the lure of marshmallows and mugs to a lucky few. For months now the ... Read More

Do you hear the music…
Our second last stop as part of our Melbourne Open House day expedition was St Michaels Church on Collins St. There were a number of churches open as part of the MOH2011 event but Dino and I made an agreement with Bean that we would visits just one (after traveling around Europe with Bean we had learnt the art of church negotiation). In part our route through the city made it an easier and smaller pool to choose from and we settled on St Michaels Uniting Church lured in by the description in my guidebook ... Read More

Can you Rococo…
Our 6th stop as part of our Melbourne Open House Day expedition was the Plaza Ballroom. This is one of those places that must surprise everyone the first time they walk through the doors. Tucked under Miss Louise (a Melbourne Shoe institution) and the Regent Theatre you enter through grand doors and head down a sweeping stairway to a reception area. This place specializes in events, conference dinners and weddings so it did make me laugh when I was told to leave my water bottle upstairs in case I ... Read More
