Call the switchboard…
The Switchboard Café tucked into two small nook in the wall spaces at the foot of the Manchester Union building is absolutely enchanting in its very own quirky way. I have long had an obsession with the stunning building for its old world charm and history and the café serves it all up right on a plate…or in a cup. Looking for somewhere to head for a quick and easy lunch I wondered past the switchboard cafe and was tempted by the people eating avocado on toast outside in the walkthrough ... Read More

By hook or by Cook….
Can you think of a more perfect way to spend a Sunday morning than with a friend, good coffee, a muffin, a beautiful park and walk and a visit to Cook's Cottage? Well this is how I got to spend one of my Sundays a few weeks ago with Sim. We met at Cumulous at an inhospitable hour of the morning (pre 10am on a Sunday) and picked up coffees and scrumptious muffins and headed through Treasury Gardens to Fitzroy gardens. We sat on a park bench and caught up and chatted with the odd tourist passer by ... Read More

Order in the house…
Our final Melbourne Open House Day (to see the other posts just click on the tags below) visit was to Parliament House a must see on Dino and my list. Everyone was surprisingly in a good mood and chatted around us with the odd volunteer (odd as in random ... Read More

Can you Rococo…
Our 6th stop as part of our Melbourne Open House Day expedition was the Plaza Ballroom. This is one of those places that must surprise everyone the first time they walk through the doors. Tucked under Miss Louise (a Melbourne Shoe institution) and the Regent Theatre you enter through grand doors and head down a sweeping stairway to a reception area. This place specializes in events, conference dinners and weddings so it did make me laugh when I was told to leave my water bottle upstairs in case I ... Read More

My, errr aren’t your murals lovely…
I finally made it the Myer Mural Hall! There was an incident earlier in the year where I tried to follow some tourists in - unfortunately they had a run in with security so I hightailed it out of there and have had to remain content with craning my neck to peer through the gap in the window. Yes - I look suspicious. The hall (think deco ballroom not drafty community hall) was open as part of the Melbourne Open House Day, 2011 and was consistently packed with interested viewers. Bean, Dino and ... Read More
