I wouldn't want to put a break in the cupcake-a-thon so today I thought I would take you back to Cristina Re, Where a Girl Goes. This is one of the most delightfully girly shops/cafes I have ever walked into. In the original post HERE I spoke about the cupcakes and macrons but only glanced over the fun sounding classes they have on offer. Perhaps while delighting in cupcakes you could take one of the Cristina Re workshops- ...could you make an origami cupcake? Or card making ... Read More

Who wants to milk a cow…
Years ago (pre teen) I lived in New Zealand for a few years and one of the earliest memories of my time there was being invited by a new chum to visit the Dairy. Great - NZ has cows as well as sheep. When told to bring money I think I may have recoiled a little - was I going to have to pay to pat a cow? Nope. A Sweet Source…
This is one of those places where you almost want to pinch yourself as you walk in. It's exactly how a cafe selling sweet cakes should look. Exactly. Its even situated perfectly at the foot of the quirky charming Rathdowne Village, a favorite haunt of mine. I will be honest here that I generally spend an hour or two most weekends at the park ... Read More

A stroll and amble…
A visit to Maling Rd, Canterbury, is a little like stepping back in time, so every so often when you feel the pull to spend some leisurely time brunching and browsing this is the perfect spot. The verandah lined streets are filled with gift shops, antiques, boutiques, jewelers and cafes. I should be upfront and say it's more of a girly street than a boyish street and has a natural lean to the older generation. However, I can't recall a time when I haven't loved going for a stroll down the street, ... Read More

What a Gem…
Having brunch with friends is one of those things that is so easy to work into always too short weekends. This morning Java, Dino, Bean and I met for a semi reunion and birthday celebratory brunch on Canterbury's Maling Road. If you haven't ever been or heard of it - it's a little like stepping back in time. But more on the road itself tomorrow. For today it was all about Brunch. We had planned to try the Maling Room a beautiful looking cafe in the old picturesque post office. Reviews had been ... Read More
