Can you imagine my delight when I stumbled upon The Melbourne Shop one fine afternoon? Tucked into the sweetest little space on Equitable Place, a small Melbourne laneway, this pop up store, a baby of the Lumbi brand, opened in December. As you may be able to guess this store specializes in all things Melbourne with a strong bent towards graphics.
The owner of the Melbourne Shop, an enterprising Melburnian, was just the kind of man to take the inspiration of our awesome city (I use the word “our” as am willing to share the city with all my readers if you live here or not) and was kind enough to tell me a little about the store and it’s origins and let me take some pictures to share with you!
The Melbourne Shop covers every Melbourne suburb (yup, EVERY at least you can order for every suburb) with suburb focused pillows, wall art, bags, pencil cases, tshirts and more. I loved the concept of having something specific to where I live on the wall and am very tempted to get one of the long wall prints for each of the suburbs I have lived in…I really like the idea of my walls telling a part of my story.
There are also graphic prints of iconic Melbourne locations in different colour pallets.
This below pic shows an art piece for Yarraville, a bag for Yarraville and one of the long wall arts for Williamstown. How gorgeous are they?
I love the idea of giving these as house warming gifts or as a going away present…or perhaps to myself just as a because pressie?
The website, www.lumbi.com , has a range of products (for other Australian cities too) and takes custom orders if you aren’t plannning on being in the city any time soon. They also have a competition with a winner every Friday afternoon, it’s as simple to enter as visiting the website!
I love that these products are all made in Melbourne too – in Yarraville to be specific. I was lucky enough to be given the below totally cute Melbourne pencil case that now holds a blend of my make up and pencils and I love that it has my post code on it (even if my postcode is a common one!).
They also have a stall every Sunday at the Arts Center Market so lots of chances to buy you very own piece from the Melbourne Shop.
