This isn’t nannaville or mum & bub central although all of the above would be happy here. This is a city find!! I have mentioned this place in an earlier post and have had a few emails asking for more details. It’s been my pleasure to help you out.

Located on the first floor of the NGV on St Kilda Rd this is one of those place that is just a bit different. It’s a fine blend of modern and old fashioned and comes with the my favorite macarons in the city ( do I need to say more or are you already headed for the tram?)

The Tea Rooms offer the perfect place to catch up with friends, take the relatives or a great wrap up to a date at the NGV. I love heading to the gallery as it’s free and you can whip around it or linger and meander at your own pace.

The Tea Room itself is beautiful and intimate while being airy and light. You can chose to sit at dining table (perfect for relatives) on sofas (perfect for a date) or at little cafe style tables (great for friends).

The menu is extensive…and should find a place for you at any time of day and they have a beautiful range of teas (in a tea service that leaves me a little green with envy). Their coffee is great and a little publicized fact is that they let you do take away (including the macarons).

Now on to the macarons (you knew it was coming right???). Sigh, swoon – I love them here. They are made by Selvana Chelvanaigum a Mauritian-French chef who I bow down to. I have never seen such a variety of traditional and interesting flavors. The list itself takes a moment to read through.

And then it’s time to glaze over as you peer into the lit chilled cabinet display. The macarons here blend from traditional flavors to blends using yoghurt and cream. They somehow get the texture, crunch and sweet levels perfect.

And more pics…

The flavors do seem to turnover as they no longer seem to stock violet, am a little heartbroken but a perfect chance to find two other flavors.

I was just dropping in today to pick up an engagement present at the gift store so ran upstairs and picked up two to take away (and take some happy snaps). I chose Berry and Yoghurt (chosen because they were so prettily pink and purple metallic swirled) and Black Cherry ( I love this flavor). I spent sometime deciding as I was torn between flavor preferences and how stunning some of these looked.

And trust me these photos show my restraint. I only bought two and while I had to take a bite for photographic purposes (such a sacrifice on my behalf) the rest is still sitting in my fridge waiting for me as a treat with my tea tomorrow!

Mouth watering?

They also have a mothers day special for tomorrow so if you are looking for somewhere special this might work for you!!
