Up to the Aylesbury….

The Aylesbury roof top bar magically appeared before us when in need for a drink on Saturday night. Now I can see you arching your brow at that…magically you scoff? Well, when Bean, Dino and I planned to head out for a glass of bubbles to enjoy on a mild but threatening rain Saturday night little did we know how hard it would be to find somewhere that wasn’t hosting a private function! After two fails and a little heartbreak on our way to the next on the list we passed the gleaming lights of The Aylesbury.

The Aylesbury roof top bar is tucked above the warmly intimate Aylesbury restaurant that totally deserves a future visit. We headed through the glowing wood doors and into a small space with two options. To the left the restaurant lively buzzing with people and a small bar area or to the right and the roof top bar. Right it was.

We are all a bit surprised to find a lift ready to whisk us upstairs – don’t they know this is Melbourne and we love to walk up flights of stairs to earn our drink?

The loft doors opened on a lovely bar with the a huge terrace at the far end.

We were greated by a lovely bar man who was happy to accommodate my desire for a cinnamon drink that I didn’t really want cinnamony and who was happy to add a maraschino cherry at my request (why yes, I can be that annoying!).

The cocktail list was creative and the wine and champagne list was well balanced. I was also impressed by their range of spirits with a huge gin selection on offer too.

We took our cocktails and champagne and settled on the ledge bar that ran around the edge of the terrace. We debated best view for a while (the place was surprisingly quite although this didn’t last long) so went with the view East taking in the beautiful comedy theter.

This bar is gorgeous and while the appeal in summer is obvious we have decided on a cold crisp night we will be back to sip cocktails all rugged up and enjoy the place. They ae also running something called Molecular Mondays that sound fantastic until 2nd July so I think I may have to pay them a visit!
