Zara, greatly anticipated Spanish fashion chain, is getting closer to opening in Melbourne. Bourke St Mall, home to our Zara, has a feeling of constant building with the time it’s taking for Zara to get ready. But wouldn’t we rather have it perfect?

Wednesday night, walking past, I noticed the crew (who never seem to leave) wheeling out giant pains of glass. Could this be the famous glass canopy all the comments have been about? (thanks again to the group updating the comments – it’s been really great to hear from you all). So, Glass canopy?

Yes! And it was fully up by the next morning.

The storefront has been a hive of activity and I can only imagine the excitement here when it opens.

Zara Sydney still gets queues lining up outside the store during peak hours despite opening nearly a month ago. Will Melbourne be the same? Given the high uptake from Australia’s first Zara are we more likely to get a Topshop or H&M coming our way? Given the mild entry into the Austalan Market of Mango (MNG) and Gap will Zaras success turn the tide? This Melbournian Girl can only hope so.

I hope to have some pics soon of their A/W 2011 collection which the store will open with – and will of course share them with you!

  1. I’m really looking forward to it, but dreading the lines so much that I think I’ll have to wait a couple of months before I go back. It is going to be crazy!

    • Lol – I often talk of waiting but when push comes to shove (metaphorically – we Melb girls queue nice) I will soooo be lining up!

  2. I walked through Westfield in the city on Thursday, truly intent on popping into Zara for a lunchtime browse, but the line was ridiculous, so I walked straight past (to Myer instead). Apparently they have to restock the shelves every day because it’s so busy. You’re going to love it! Zara Melbourne is exciting!

    • It’s amazing to believe it’s still so crowded. The Zara execs must be pretty chuffed with decision to open here!
